The Pathology department at the University of Utah has several individual lab web pages that fall under the School of Medicine umbrella. These "mini" sites provide information specific to each of the labs research and focus.
The stakeholders for the lab feel that the "mini sites" arent unique enough and dont stand out like other top university lab websites around the country. They would like to have more visually engaging sites that will help to attract potential students to the University of Utah and become involved with the various labs and research. The challenge with a project like this is determining how to create something unique while still adhering to the existing branding guidelines.
The initial scope for this project was to update the website UI for one lab within the pathology department. If the new interface could show a positive increase in student user interaction and lead generation, the next step would be to continue to update the UI's for all of the lab websites in the department.

The over arching objective will be to create a UI that engages the user to explore the information on the site and to prompt them reach out for more information about the program. We will accomplish this through a simpified, modern, technical and well organized user interface.
After some initial sketches for both mobile and desktop UI's, the next focus was to create our lo-fi prototypes. These were used to get input from the stakeholders about the direction.
After a few rounds of iterations with the lo-fi prototypes we began to work on the hi-fidelity prototypes to help further develop the look and feel of the UI.
Overall the new user interface is an upgrade from what the lab currently uses, and with the addition of several CTA's (call to actions) throughout the site it helps to further engage the user and invites them to learn more about the lab.
